Biographie : Il a gagné le prix du meilleur acteur au Festival de Cannes en 2004 pour son rôle de Akira (12 ans) dans le film Nobody Knows de Kore-eda Hirokazu.
Yûya Yagira est le premier gagnant d'un prix à Cannes pour le Japon et aussi le plus jeune (14 ans) !
La même année, le magazine TIME le nomme Asia's Best Heroes. En 2008, il aurait essayer de se suicider.
